Marriage License, New Mexico
Santa Fe County Clerk’s Office – 102 Grant Ave., 505-986-6280 - just off the plaza in downtown Santa Fe. Office hours are 8:00am. to 5:00pm., Monday through Friday. They are closed on state and federal holidays. It is advised to call ahead for any unexpected closings if you will be applying on the day of your wedding, or on the Friday before a weekend. A photo ID showing date of birth is required, preferably a driver’s license. A certified birth certificate or passport with photo and date of birth may also be used. If the last name being used on the marriage application differs from the name on the identification used, a certified copy of proof of name change is required. You will need to know your social security number. The fee is currently $25.00 cash. Both parties must be present when the license is issued. Your marriage license is given to your officiant, at the time of your wedding, and signed by you, the officiant and two witnesses. It must be returned for recording either in person or by mail within 90 days. If by mail, it will be returned to you after recording. You may apply for your marriage license anytime, as there is no expiration date. No blood tests or proof of any divorce are necessary. The license is valid for a wedding in any county in New Mexico. As all county requirements may vary, I suggest that you contact directly any other county where you may be applying. In Albuquerque call, 505-768-4314. If you are under 18 years of age, call the county clerk for information on parental consent.
